THE CUTTING EDGE
When slicing an angel food cake one must use a knife with a serrated blade. With a downward MOVING motion it easily cuts the cake. If there is pressure on the blade it squashes the cake.
The vocal cords also have serrated edges. Any pressure {support} squashes them together. There must always be motion from the diaphragm to allow them to vibrate freely in the wind pipe. This will allow COMPRESSION to happen. The Bernoulli Effect brings them together by moving the air away from the vocal cords--not using physical effort to force them together.
NO SUPPORT!
SINGING IS NOT AN ATHLETIC EVENT
The serrated edges of the vocal cords are very fragile. The vocal cords themselves are very strong. If used properly the voice will be healthy for a lifetime. Applying air pressure forces the edges together and causes vocal damage. Not paying attention to the natural coordination of the body leads to too much work from the physical body. This has led to the shortening of careers for many naturally beautiful voices.
