THE LARYNX - THE CULPRIT
The larynx is the voice box. It must vibrate freely in an open neck. Pretend there is NO NECK. Otherwise the larynx tightens and does not allow the air to enter through the windpipe to the relaxed body below - the diaphragm.
Contemporary singing engages the larynx. As the throat is BEHIND the larynx and tongue, this engagement blocks the air passage to engage the vocal cords. The vocal cords must vibrate freely in the column of air behind and below the larynx and tongue.
THE MANIPULATION OF THE LARYNX IS MAN'S ATTEMPT TO CONTROL NATURE!
Using the larynx to create vibrations is dangerous to the health of the singing voice. The voice is then controlled from the stomach up, unable to engage the vocal cords from the diaphragm below the waist. Air DOWN is your POWER. Air UP forces the larynx to do the work.
