IT'S A BIRD! IT'S A PLANE! NO, ITS A.......................

Whatever image that reveals itself after you connect the dots in the Comic Section of your Sunday newspaper.

When we connect letters we get words. When we connect words we get phrases. When we connect phrases we get songs and arias. When we connect the spoken word with songs we get musicals. When we connect recitatives with arias we get operas.

Connecting is the key word. In music it's called LEGATO - vowel THROUGH vowel - not vowel TO vowel. Legato reveals to us the music that was written. The drama is in the melody, NOT the words. On this legato line, however, the words BECOME clear and have meaning. The sound is always motion on this legato line, and the projection of sound and words happens.

ALWAYS SING ON THE INTEREST - NOT THE PRINCIPAL

Leontyne  Price was the finest example of legato singing, ever.
